sparkly lady

Saw this rather sparkly lady in the window of the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street! Quite fancy this as a New Year's look!

Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas Moi Self girls! We saw this Christmassy display outside Stella McCartney's Bruton Street shop and thought we'd share. Enjoy all the mince pies and eat some good grub - it's only once a year after all...

at the printers

Here is a pic of me at the screen printers and me and Bianca when we picked up our first sample. We are so excited! We just hope people want to buy them when they are available in Jan!

the beginning

It is time to write our very first blog post! I think I should start by introducing the brand and a bit about me and my best friend (and business partner) Bianca.
Moi Self started as a uni project when I was studying in Sydney. I wanted to address emotions of twenty-something year old girls with fun and inspiring products that could support them and not make them feel stranger than they already felt (self-help books have this tendency) I ended up developing the brand Moi Self and 5 products. A few years on I moved to London and when going for graphic design jobs and showing this piece of work I was often encouraged to start it up. I have always wanted a business of my own so I thought, why not give it a go? I registered the company and started researching. I attended a networking night put on by Red Magazine and when it came to question time I put up my hand and Sarah Curran (owner ofmywardrobe.com) answered. There was time after to network and Sarah came up to me, wanting to know more about my business. She loved the idea and wanted me to arrange a meeting with her to discuss it further. It was from that point on that Sarah became my mentor and she is largely responsible for me actually committing to the idea and launching the first product, Helpful Hankies. She believed in me from the beginning and when a women of her success tells you to do something, you do it! I committed months to redesigning 5 products and decided to launch with the Helpful Hankies. I commissioned a lovely illustrator to do the illustrations and working closely with a screen printer in London Bridge. Mywardrobe.com has placed an order and they are due to be sold online late January!

Early in the process I decided that I could not do it alone, most of my friends and family are in Australia and I really needed some proper support. Moi Self is largely based on friendship and girls helping girls so it was essential that I built the business with a partner (and a best friend!) Bianca and I work together at White Stuff and we work really well together! She does the copywriting and I do the graphics so our skills complement nicely. We get along really well and are able to give eachother open feedback so we knew we would make good partners. Bianca has a contagious fun personality, severe social skills and crazily creative so she is heading up the PR, events and all copywriting!
